Every material choice, from the leather to the sole, impacts the final weight and comfort of the shoe.
Upper
 * Leather: Full-grain calfskin is the optimal choice. It is the highest quality leather available, offering a soft, supple feel with a tight fiber structure that is both durable and lightweight. A high-quality full-grain leather will also develop a beautiful patina over time.
 * Lining: A full leather lining is essential for breathability and comfort. A soft, thin leather like kidskin or a breathable full-grain calfskin will prevent moisture buildup and reduce the need for a separate sock liner.
Sole
 * Outsole: The key to a lightweight Oxford is a thin, flexible sole. A high-quality leather sole is the most traditional and elegant choice, offering excellent breathability. To improve grip and durability without adding significant weight, a thin, injected rubber insert in the heel and forefoot can be a great addition.
 * Insole: A soft, vegetable-tanned leather insole is crucial for comfort. It should be paired with a minimal or zero-density filler (such as a thin layer of foam or felt) to maintain the lightweight and flexible nature of the Blake or Sacchetto construction.    * Wholecut Oxford: Made from a single piece of leather, this style is a testament to exquisite craftsmanship and offers the most seamless and lightweight silhouette possible. It's often more flexible due to the lack of seams.
 * Last: The "last" is the foot-shaped form around which the shoe is built. For a modern, lightweight Oxford, a sleek, slightly chiseled or round last is ideal. A well-designed last ensures a snug fit without being restrictive, promoting a comfortable and natural gait.
 * Closed Lacing System: This is the defining characteristic of an Oxford shoe. The eyelet tabs are stitched under the vamp, creating a "closed" O-shape when laced. This provides a more formal and streamlined look compared to a Derby shoe's open lacing system.
